TRIAL & ERROR

In this section we share the research behind Soft Connection Lab: from the first hands-on tests of the traditional techniques over the upscaled, insightful experiments to making performances and co-creative workshops and challenges. Doing so, SCL explores a conjunctive design attitude which stimulates a caring connection between humans and their surrounding world.

First experiments: tablet weaving

During our first year of research, we were experimenting with specifically chosen braiding techniques. One of these techniques is card or tablet weaving. Afterwards, we've labeled it under our Soft Tool 'Twining'.

First experiments: scaling up the kumihimo disc

One of the twelve techniques Soft Connection Lab explored is kumihimo. During the first year of our research, we scaled up the typically round disc to find out possibilities for collaborative making.
